Victims of Hostilities - Medical treatment

Medical treatment for a person injured in hostilities includes hospitalization and treatment of injuries sustained as a result of the attack (including dental treatment, medication, medical aids, recuperation and rehabilitation). Medical treatment can be obtained in government hospitals and at the health funds, based on National Insurance Institute authorization that the injury was recognized as a hostilities-related injury, and based on a financial undertaking by the NII.

The injured person is also entitled to first aid from Magen David Adom and from any doctor or medical institution near the place of the injury.

The National Insurance Institute does not reimburse expenses for private medical treatment.

Reimbursement of expenses for medical treatment:

Medication
Reimbursement can be obtained for medication connected with the injury, for medication that was not supplied by a public medical service. To obtain the refund, please apply to the branch of the National Insurance Institute closest to the place of residence, attaching the prescriptions and receipts from the pharmacy.

Travel
A victim of hostilities is entitled to reimbursement of expenses for travel required to obtain medical treatment. The refund is only given when the medical treatment is performed near the place of residence, by a recognized public medical institution.

Written certification from the treating institution (health fund, hospital, etc.) must be attached, noting the date and type of treatment provided and receipts as necessary, as follows:
In injured person who traveled on public transportation (bus, taxi, shared taxi, etc.) must sign a declaration specifying the route and price of the trip (there is no need to attach tickets). The reimbursement is calculated according to the public transportation prices.
In injured person who traveled in a special taxi or ambulance (after the treating physician, with the authorization of the National Insurance Institute doctor, determined that his condition did not enable him to travel on public transportation) must attach receipts for the trip expenses.
An injured person who traveled in his private vehicle receives reimbursement according to kilometers (according to the rate paid to a civil servant).

Medical recuperation allowance
Given after prolonged hospitalization or after surgery, at the recommendation of the treating physician and with the authorization of the National Insurance Institute doctor.

Funding of dental treatment for victims
A person with a special 100% degree of disability, or a disability of 50% or more due to a head injury, or 20% or more due to an emotional injury is entitled to funding of dental treatment. The treatment is given even if the injury to the teeth did not happen at the time of the event.

The treatment includes preventive, preservative and prosthetic treatment and is provided by a dentist in a health fund clinic or a dentist on the National Insurance Institute list (the list is available at the branches).

If you choose to obtain private treatment (a dentist who is not on the above list) you can obtain a partial reimbursement in accordance with the NII’s arrangement with the dentists on the list.

The injured person must obey instructions of the doctor regarding the medical treatment in order to maintain his right to the benefits.
