Income Support - Cases in which eligibility for benefits is checked separately from the spouse

Below are the situations in which eligibility can be checked for someone who is living apart from a spouse, to establish eligibility for income support benefits:

a.   Your spouse has been in prison or under detention for over 30 days. You must present authorization from the Israel Prison Service stating the period of time your spouse has been incarcerated.

b.   You are living apart, not under the same roof, and your spouse has not supported you for at least 30 consecutive days. A woman living apart from her husband must sue him in the relevant court for alimony, unless he is disabled and his disability pension is his only income, or if a couple has been living apart for more than 12 months.

c.   You are not running a joint household and your spouse is not supporting you and he has been ordered to pay alimony in a court judgment. You must present the court judgment.

d.   Your spouse is not supporting you and you refrain from suing for alimony out of fear of physical violence.
