| Learning to drive a vehicle with special accessories |

A person with limited mobility who requires and uses a wheelchair and who has been determined to be someone who must drive a vehicle for special accessories while sitting in a wheelchair, can learn to drive in the National Insurance Institute’s vehicle.
For that purpose, the NII has purchased 3 new vehicles which are equipped with sophisticated accessories to assist those learning to drive or learning to use the special accessories that will be installed in their vehicles.

| Conditions of entitlement | |
A person with limited mobility who is age 17 or older may submit an application for driving lessons if he meets one of the following conditions:
a. He does not posses a driver’s license, and he meets the following two conditions: 1. The Medical Institute for Road Safety has not determined that he is unfit to drive. 2. The Medical Institute for Road Safety recommends a vehicle for special accessories for him.
OR
b. He has a driver’s license and he meets one of the following conditions: 1. He must pass a test of his ability to control a vehicle with special accessories and he wants to take lessons before the test. 2. The Medical Institute for Road Safety recommends a vehicle for special accessories for him, and before the purchase he is interested in trying to drive such a vehicle. |

| Submitting an application | |
A person who wishes to learn to drive a vehicle for special accessories should fill out an Application for Driving Lessons on a Vehicle for Special Accessories. The application can be mailed or faxed to the National Insurance Institute branch. |
