Financing new mother's hospitalization expenses


Hospitalization grant

The National Insurance pays the hospitalization expenses of the new mother, the payment is transferred directly to the hospital.

Eligibility conditions

A new mother who is eligible for a birth grant, is also eligible for financing of hospitalization expenses.

In the following cases, you should visit a National Insurance branch up to two months before the birth, to check if you are eligible for hospitalization financing:

  • You or your partner are not residents of Israel.
  • You are a foreign worker or the wife of a foreign worker.

If you are eligible for a hospitalization grant, we will send confirmation to the hospital after childbirth.

Grant amount

The amount of the hospitalization grant is NIS 17,762 (as of Aug 01, 2025).
If the child is born premature, the hospital will receive an additional amount for his or her hospitalization of NIS 281,860 (as of Aug 01, 2025), provided that the following two conditions are met:

  1. The child weighs up to 1,750 grams.
  2. The child was hospitalized for at least four days in a neonatal intensive care unit.

Giving birth abroad

If you gave birth abroad or in a hospital in Israel with which the National Insurance Institute does not have an agreement, you must submit a claim for a hospitalization grant.

Financing new mother's transportation by ambulance

The National Insurance finances the transportation expenses of a new mother in a Magen David Adom ambulance. The payment is transferred directly to Magen David Adom, and the mother in labor is exempt from payment.

Eligibility conditions:

  • The mother is entitled to a birth grant.
  • The birth took place in the hospital within 3 days of the day of transportation - a mother who gave birth at home will be entitled to financing if she was transported by ambulance within 24 hours of the birth, and was hospitalized for at least 12 hours.
