At the National Insurance, we have lately expanded our assistance, to let victims of private accidents receive an allowance even when they are covered with a private insurance, even though the National Insurance did not allow so far to receive both an allowance and another compensation from another party in the context of private accidents.
- The accident allowance is given to a person who got injured at home, in vacation or during leisure hours and, due to his injury, have lost his earning capacity.
- The conditions of entitlement to the allowance are: to be a citizen above 18 years old and under retirement age, the accident that impaired his functioning capacity for a salaried employee or a self-employed, and an individual not working at all or a domestic worker.
- In the past, for the self-employed in particular who were not granted any "sick leave" by the law, and sought coverage from private insurances - were receiving compensation from their private insurance only. Today, they are able to submit a claim to the National Insurance even when they are entitled to a compensation from a private insurance and to receive a payment from the institution.
In addition, it was decided that any claim that has been denied in the past will be reexamined and a compensation will paid retroactively and automatically to the claimant's bank account. A verification by the National Insurance revealed hundreds of claims, 75% of them were found eligible and ten thousands of NIS will be paid to citizens on their account.
- Among the claims that have already been compensated - there is this case of a private accident suffered by a citizen woman injured during her vacation with a rib wound. She received compensation from her private insurance and after reexamining her file, she received a NIS 18,000 credit on her bank account.
At the National Insurance we are emphasizing that the private accidents allowance is almost never exercised nor claimed for by Israeli citizens and that we wish for the public to take up their rights to receive an allowance in cases of private accidents that are occurring from time to time. In parallel to another advantage allowing you to receive a compensation from a private insurance, you can also receive this allowance.
Yarona Shalom, Acting Director General of the National Insurance: "The National Insurance explores at all time how to improve its service and the assistance that comes along. The private accidents allowance is a benefit whose eligibility is not known by Israeli citizens and it is important for them to be aware that that are entitled thereto and are able to receive an assistance in case of injury suffered at home or in vacation which prevented the citizen from returning to work and earn a living. For the self-employed, this his a significant announcement since this guaranty can provide them a double coverage from both the National Insurance and their private insurance, which underlines the fact that this organization believes that a comprehensive response must be offered to the self-employed in Israel".
