| Counseling Service for the Elderly |
The Counseling Service for the Elderly operates in all branches of the National Insurance Institute and is designed to assist the elderly and their families in resolving the typical problems of the elderly. The service is provided by retired volunteers who are trained in courses given at universities and colleges to provide counseling, guidance and practical assistance to the elderly. The service is available to any elderly person in Israel who requires assistance. The counseling is provided in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. The elderly who request the service are given a sympathetic ear and, when necessary, the counselor refers them to other services in the community.

| About the Service | |
The elderly population in Israel is growing. Many elderly people, particularly those age 75 or older, are in both financial and emotional distress, and are even living in physically dangerous conditions. Many of the elderly live alone and feel lonely, neglected and rejected. They are not always capable of looking after themselves, exercising their rights and taking advantage of the health and welfare services created for them by the community.
However, there are younger retirees who are ready and willing to help the elderly in distress. These two groups come together in the Counseling Service for the Elderly Department. |
