The National Insurance Institute will publish tonight for public comments a draft of regulations to the National Insurance Law that seek to provide a discount for students studying abroad.
To date, Israeli resident students who have gone to study abroad have paid full national insurance contributions totaling approximately 266 NIS. The proposal seeks to provide the same discount to students studying in Israel to let them pay approximately 171 NIS. Now, the National Insurance Institute is looking to promote the discount at this stage for the years 2026-2027.
The purpose of the legislation is to promote equality between Israeli students in Israel and abroad and to promote higher education. Moreover, the assumption is that these students do not work during their studies, which can help them during their academic studies.
Discount application should be submitted online on the National Insurance website no later than the end of the year following graduation or, alternatively, one year after receiving confirmation of eligibility for the degree.
