The National Insurance pays NIS 280 million as study grant for children

The study grant for the school year 5784 will be paid to eligible persons on August 10, 2023

The grant is designed to help families with preparations for the next school year, such as the purchase of books, notebooks, binders, schoolbags, etc.
The total cost of payments from this grant is approximately NIS 280 million, which is approximately NIS 28 million more than last year.

The  National Insurance pays this grant to approximately 111,275 families headed by a single parent (single-parent family) for 181,940 children
and to approximately 19,472 families with four or more children, who receive subsistence allowances (minimum subsistence income, alimony, disability, elderly, old age and survivors) for 72,750 children.

The amount of the allowance - amounts to 1,101 ILS for each child aged 6 to 18, and is paid directly into the parents' bank account  for children born from 1.1.2006 to 31.12.2017.

In parallel, the right to a grant may be granted even if the child was not born between these dates and is studying in first or twelfth grade. In such a situation and in order to verify eligibility - a certificate of studies must be sent to the National Insurance.

As mentioned above, the grant is automatically transferred to the bank account of most eligible people. The rest of the beneficiaries who do not receive it automatically, must file an application only once on the website of the National Insurance or at a branch. For example: a parent who has recently transitioned to single-parent, single or separated parent status who is in the process of divorce. In addition to this, a lone parent (single/widowed), an Aguna woman, a woman staying at a battered women's shelter, and a new immigrant may also be eligible for a grant.

Acting Director General of National Insurance, Yarona Shalom: "The beginning of the school year is a joyous event. The National Insurance is also present at this time and provides families in need with financial assistance designed to purchase the equipment they need for their children's education. This is one of the ethical and justified subsidies we have. Children have the right to receive the tools necessary to succeed in school, for those who are destined to lead Israeli society and its economic prosperity."
