Compensations to reservists sent on unpaid leave due to Covid-19

Following the "Corona" crisis, hundreds of thousands of workers were sent on unpaid leave, some of them were called for reserve service.

As a relief for reservists on unpaid leave and their employers - those on reserve service are able to receive reserve service benefits from the National Insurance Institute directly by submitting a personal claim.

The personal claim and documents can be sent as follows:

A military authorization, the last 6 pay slips and an employer's certificate about unpaid leave, must be attached to the claim.

Calculation of reserve service benefits for reservists on unpaid leave

  • Reserve service benefits are calculated according to work income, as follows:
For those who worked above 60 days in the 3 months preceding the month of service - the benefit will be calculated based on the gross average wage subject to insurance contributions, in the 3 months preceding the month of service.
For those who worked under 60 days in the 3 months preceding the month of service - the benefit will be calculated based on the gross average wage subject to insurance contributions, in the 3 highest months over the last 6 months preceding the month of service.
  • A person eligible for unemployment benefits during reserve service will not be able to receive both unemployment and reserve service benefits, he will therefore only receive reserve service benefits during the service, but the amount of the benefit will not be lower than that of unemployment benefits which were due if he were not called to reserve service.
  • Whether unemployment benefits were already paid to you, you will receive a supplement to reserve service benefits, since reserve service benefits are calculated on 100% of your income, whereas unemployment benefits are calculated on a lower percentage of your income.
