Period of entitlement


​The period of entitlement for the foster parent allowance begins on the day that the parents receive the child into their home for foster care. Below are details of the insurance periods and entitlement duration according to the number of children and their ages:

  • Foster care for children up to age 3
    If the father or mother have accumulated a full qualifying period  – the entitlement period is 15 weeks (105 days).
    If just the mother has accumulated a qualifying period of 6 months of work out of the last 10 – the entitlement period is eight weeks (56 days).
  • Foster care for children from 3 to 10 years of age
    If the father has accumulated a full qualifying period, or the mother has accumulated a qualifying period of six months of work out of at least 14 – the entitlement period is only four weeks (28 days) .
  • Foster care for 2 children
    If the father has accumulated a full qualifying period, or the mother has accumulated 6 months of work out of at least the last 14 – the entitlement period is:
    for one or two children aged less than 3 years – the entitlement is for 126 days (105 days for the first child + 21 days for the second).
    two children aged 3 years and over - the entitlement is for 42 days (28 days for the first child + 14 days for the second).
