Occupational vocational rehabilitation

Persons with a disability level of 20% and above (who receive a monthly compensation) are entitled to funding of vocational studies, provided they meet one of the following three conditions:

  • They lack a profession.
  • They are forced to undergo career retraining as a result of their recognized injury.
  • They require vocational training for establishing themselves at their work place.

Decisions concerning the approval of higher education and professional studies lie within the authority of the branches' Rehabilitation Committee. Decisions regarding rehabilitation require an eligibility and suitability evaluation process, so it is recommended that applications be submitted as early as possible.

The chosen field or profession must suit the disabled person's skills and medical and functional condition, as well as the options of employment in the open job market.

Aid is approved only for fully-fledged students in recognized institutions under governmental or public supervision in Israel (such as The Council for Higher Education concerning academic studies, and the Ministry of Labor concerning vocational training). The aid includes also preparatory studies for a matriculation certificate or a pre-academic preparatory course, if such studies are mandatory for carrying out the rehabilitation program.

Attention,

No funding will be approved for those registered for a study program at unrecognized institutes not under governmental or public supervision. Eligibility is granted for one year only. The application must be re-submitted each year, accompanied by a certificate on academic achievements.

Students who have quit their studies for reasons considered by the committee to be unreasonable are obliged to return all financial aid which they have received for their studies.
