Conditions of entitlement

To a disability pension is entitled a Israeli resident who is at least 18 years old, but has not yet reached retirement age, and is disabled due to a physical, intellectual or mental impairment resulting from an illness, accident or birth defect.

You can file a claim for a general disability pension from the age of 18 until 12 months after retirement age.

Conditions of entitlement to a disability pension

To receive a disability pension one must meet the 4 conditions below:

  • First condition: Age and residency

You are an Israeli resident, or a temporary resident holding a valid visa (Visa A5).
You are between the ages of 18 and retirement age.

  • Second condition: Income from work

You either do not work or your income as a salaried employee or self-employed person is under 60% of the average wage, i.e. NIS 8,261 (as of Jan 01, 2026).
It is stressed that this condition is reviewed if it is met for 90 consecutive days over the 15 months preceding the date of claim submission.
If during this 90-day period you have received sick pay - the amount of sick pay will not be taken into account in the income test, but an employer's certificate regarding the payment of sick pay must be sent to us.
Other payments from your employer, such as convalescence, clothing, bonuses and so on - will be taken into account relatively to the period of verification.

Please note that your overall amount of income from work and pension will always be higher than the amount of the pension alone.
The disability pension rate varies according to your income (including additional payments such as convalescence, clothing, bonuses, and so on, for income calculation under the law), the amount of income affecting the pension changes according to the degree of incapacity. • Third condition: Medical disability

You were determined, by a physician from the NII, a medical disability degree of at least 60%, or at least 40%, if you have several medical impairments and a medical disability of at least 25% was determined for a single one of them.

  • Fourth condition: Incapacity degree

It has been established that, due to your disability, you cannot work or your capacity to earn a living has been diminished by at least 50%, and a degree of earning incapacity of 60%, 65%, 74% or 100% has been determined for you.
