Exceptions in functioning capacity examinations

In the following cases the National Insurance Institute will not hold the functioning capacity examination at the claimant's home:

  • For a long-term care benefit claimant, who has submitted a medical document containing detailed information based on which a decision can be made, at all levels, on his or her entitlement to a long-term care benefit.
  • A claimant who is 90 years old or older may choose to undergo the functioning capacity examination by a gerontologist in the public institution in which the gerontologist works. The costs of the examination are covered by the National Insurance Institute.
  • A blind claimant living alone will submit a declaration form and add a photocopy of his/her certificate of blindness to it, and we will examine his/her eligibility for the benefit at the lowest degree. Please note, is also regarded as living alone, the individual who lives with an invalid spouse, when no other relative is living with them.
  • For a claimant suffering from renal insufficiency who receives dialysis treatment.

Please note, if you have been exempted from an examination by an assessor and disagree with the degree of functioning capacity that was determined for you, you can request an assessor to be sent to your home in order to examine your functioning capacity.
