Seniority increment

A seniority increment is added to the basic survivors' pension due to a widower/widow (according to your age and the number of children).

The seniority is calculated based on the number of insurance years accumulated by the deceased prior to his/her death, as hereby detailed.

12 months of insurance are considered as a full insurance year, whether or not they were consecutive.

Maximum allowed rate of seniority - 50% of the pension.

Seniority increment calculation method:

Until December 2016, seniority was calculated as follows: for each insurance year beyond the deceased's first 10 years of insurance, a seniority rate of 2% of the basic pension is paid to the widower/widow.

As of January 2017, seniority calculation was calculated as follows: for each insurance year beyond the first 9 years of insurance, is paid a seniority rate of 2% of the basic pension to which you are entitled.

As of January 2018, the method of calculation of the seniority increment has changed for recipients of survivors' pension with seniority below 50%. Seniority will increase progressively in 2 steps, and be calculated as detailed below:

  • In January 2018, a seniority rate of 2% will be paid for every insurance year beyond the first 4 years of insurance.
  • In January 2019, a seniority rate of 2% will be paid for every insurance year, that is since the very first year of insurance.
