Stoma surgery and bladder catheterization

The parent of a child that underwent stoma surgery or needing a bladder catheterization, may be entitled to a disabled child allowance from birth to age 18 years and three months, provided that he meets the basic requirements.

Entitlement is established in the following cases:

  • A child expected to undergo, for a period of one year at least, on of the following treatments: Ureterostomy, gastrostomy, jejunostomy, colostomy, cystostomy
  • The child needing a bladder catheterization at least twice a day.

It is worthwhile to check as well the child's eligibility for dependence on the help of others for actions of daily living (above age 3), which entitles to an increased benefit.

  • Updated medical certificate detailing the child's medical and functional condition, mentioning medical history, type and frequency of treatment received.
