The victim of a work injury for whom was determined a temporary disability at a rate below 100%, and who is, because of his disability, unable to work in any occupation whatsoever and doesn't have any work income - can file a request to be recognized as "needy disabled", and receive a temporary degree of disability of 100%.

Criteria for "needy disabled" recognition

A "needy disabled" is defined as the person meeting the two requirements below:

  • He or she has no reasonable chance nor the ability to work in any job whatsoever.
  • He or she has no income from any occupation or any business.

Filing a "needy disabled" request

By law, the benefit might be approved for up to 12 months preceding the submission of the claim.

The claim and required documents can be sent to us by one of the following ways:

Request's handling process

An "Approval Committee" composed of a claims officer, a rehabilitation worker and a physician, will examine the "needy disabled" claim without the insured's presence.

  • If the claim is approved - the degree of disability will be upgraded for period of up to 4 months. Once this period ends, a new claim must be submitted.
  • If the claim is denied - you may file a written appeal against the decision and, if necessary, appear before the Committee.
The appeal shall be sent to the Work Disability Department, using this link.
